The design process
• The design process begins with a complimentary consultation. Most brides bring pictures clipped from bridal magazines that illustrate their desired style elements. One picture can be used as an inspiration piece, or several can be combined. Once a design is agreed upon, a general price quote is given, with a more specific figure a few days later after materials costs are researched.
• At this point, a deposit of one half the total is paid (the remainder due upon completion), and the bride's measurements are taken. A minimum of 5 fittings are scheduled, and then the fun begins. The bride watches her dress grow from a "practice bodice" into a full garment fitted specially to her and her proportions. Some decisions are made in the process to assure that the dress flatters her and her desires. Most gowns are finished very close to the actual wedding date to take care of any last minute figure changes (brides can lose or gain due to nerves and busy-ness!)
• Gowns are picked up steamed and ready to wear. A delivery service is available on some weekends for a fee.
• Bridesmaids, mothers, and flower girls can all find their wedding dreams at the Genuine Article. The above process applies to them too, with fewer fittings.

Alterations

Alterations on bridal gowns or other formal wear begin 1 to 2 months before the event. The first fitting requires that any special lingerie, petticoats and bridal shoes be worn. Most bridal gowns require 3 fittings, (which includes the final check), and most other formal wear require 2 fittings. Altered garments may be steamed for an additional charge. Payment may be made at any fitting, but must be made in full before any gown is taken.

Closing note

The design and alteration process is exacting but enjoyable — imagine seeing your bridal dreams emerge before your eyes! I would enjoy working to make you look incredible in a dress designed or altered for
you!
